"Nothing Will Ever Tear Us Apart" is, of course, an overly optimistic statement. Surely every human relationship will be torn asunder at some point in time, but the spirit behind this statement is that of resilience, hope, and love. And no *thing* or no *one* can tear that apart. Death---the great leveller---will visit each and every one of us one day, but still the world goes on…
When terrorist attacks were perpetrated in a Christmas market in Germany in 2016, I wrote this song the following day as a response to what I saw as an attempt by those who hate their lives---and the world---to strike fear into innocent people; to make it seem as if terrorism could strike anyone, at any time, anywhere (which, of course, it can't). When another attack struck a concert in Manchester in the spring of 2017, I booked the studio to record the song. On the night we finished mixing and mastering the track, word had already reached us that an attack had been carried out on Las Ramblas in Barcelona. This song is not only a response to the senseless attacks on innocents, it has grown and expanded in meaning with each of these attacks, and in the context of the emergence of far-right groups (who are both as bad as other extremist terrorists, and are in fact enabling the cause of such terrorists).
This song will not change the world. This song will not stop terrorism and fanaticism in their tracks. This song, however, is our statement. Our declaration of love and solidarity. As tempting as it is to go out and brain a skinhead, it is love and understanding that will save the world, not reactionary violence. We may take a global view of the world, but with this song we are taking a local stand. We can only control what we can control. In his novel, A Gentleman in Moscow, Amor Towles posited that perhaps the most important part of the film Casablanca is when Rick stops the glass from falling off the table during the arrest of Ugarte: He cannot stop the authorities from arresting Ugarte, but he can try to maintain a shred of civilization in a place and time where it is deteriorating rapidly; to "exhibit an essential faith that by the smallest of one's action one can restore some semblance of order to the world". That is our goal with this song.
This is our song. This is our manifesto. This is our declaration. This is our attempt to remind the few people who will hear this song, that there is love in the world, and with that love, nothing will tear us apart.
Solidarity, peace, and love.

lyrics
I do what I always do
And I am not afraid
If it's over then it's over and nothing more
I'll freak out when the world burns but not before
We dance the way we always have
And sing the songs we've always sung
And live our lives as we did before
Why would we worry about someone else's holy war?
Because oh my love, my heart
Nothing will ever tear us apart
No, no, never, no
For every act of violence they commit
We will commit two acts of love
And show them what this life is really for
I will love this world more than I did before
Oh my love, my heart
Nothing will ever tear us apart
No, no, never, no
So let them threaten violence and spit out their hate
Preach apocalypse into the wind
It only makes me cherish my life all the more
I will leave this world when I'm ready and not before
Because oh my love, my heart
No one will ever tear us apart
No, no, never tear us apart
No, no, never, no

We love us some Alun Piggins and this album is classic Alun. A writer who can be as funny as he can be profound, nothing beats seeing him live, if you ever get the chance. Red Orkestra
This is a wonderful live album of all the the Stony Lonesome hits. Recorded at the House of Miracles in Cambridge, Ontario, this was a great concert and the recording really captured it well. Red Orkestra
